Holy Saturday OT Reading: Daniel 6:1-24
You know that story about Daniel in the lion’s den? It’s actually a powerful preview of what Jesus would experience on Holy Saturday.
Picture this: Daniel is tossed into what seems like certain death — a pit of hungry lions.
His enemies knew exactly how to trap him because his faith was so consistent they could predict it. They knew where he prayed and when. They used his unwavering trust in God against him.
This mirrors Jesus being laid in the tomb after the crucifixion.
✔️Both appear defeated.
✔️Both are sealed in darkness.
✔️Both face what looks like the end.
But when morning comes, Daniel is found alive!
The king rushes to the den expecting to find nothing but bones, but instead discovers Daniel, preserved by God’s protection.
This foreshadows the empty tomb of Easter morning.
What seemed like defeat became victory.
The tomb is empty.
It’s a good parallel for us to consider as well — to pray that the Lord would so embolden and strengthen our faith that even our enemies would know that we love God above all else as He has first loved us.
