📖 Lent 5 Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 43:16-21
Just like we might crave a cool drink on the hottest summer day, so should we thirst desperately for God’s righteousness.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,” right?
This Lenten season invites us to reflect on our unrighteousness and deepen our thirst for Jesus.
Isaiah 43 speaks of this thirst being fulfilled: “Behold, now I am doing a new thing… I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert… to give drink to my chosen people.”
This “new thing” Isaiah mentions? It’s Jesus! ⬇️
⚖️ He fulfills righteousness for us
✝️ He takes our sins to the cross
🌅 He rises to new life
💧He becomes our living water
While we navigate this broken world, the Lord “makes a way in the mighty waters.” 🌊
Through baptism, we are buried with Christ and raised to walk in newness of life.
Your thirst is quenched by Jesus, the living water.
And the ultimate promise? On the last day, your thirst will be eternally satisfied as “springs of living water” flow from Him.
Jesus himself becomes the river of life for us.
