Upcoming Retreats

This is My Body

January 1-2, 2021
Faith Lutheran Church - Pierre, SD

Our culture is wrestling with questions about sexuality and gender.  Many of our communities, congregations, and families are struggling with these issues as well.  How do our bodies reflect and confess the grace of God?  For what privileges and responsibilities has He made us male and female?  How does He safeguard these gifts?  How can we incorporate and care for individuals experiencing suffering and temptation related to sexuality and gender?  How may we speak truth and show love in such sensitive situations?
Rev. Michael W. Salemink, executive director of Lutherans For Life since January 2016, will help us wrestle through these difficult questions.  He writes regularly and speaks nationwide equipping Lutherans to be Gospel-motivated voices for life. At this retreat we will be motivated by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We will examine instruction from Scripture, engage observations of science, and explore opportunities for servanthood.

Watermarked to Weather Whatever

January 22-23, 2021
Kansas District Retreat center - Herington, ks

Who am I really?  When the world is looking, I am very good at conforming, being who I need to be to fit in.  But what happens when my popularity, my image, my sinful self pulls me into the places where demons dwell?  What happens when I like it!  What happens when being part of the cool kids crowd is more important than living in my Baptismal identity?

Believe it or not, every struggle we have with identity, self-confidence, and self-esteem all stem from forgetting who Christ has made us to be.  At this retreat we will dive into the deep end of the Baptismal pool of God’s grace to find Gospel answers to our identity questions.
Pastor Randy Sturzenbecher serves the saints at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church and School in Black Hawk, South Dakota.  He serves as the first Vice President of the South Dakota District and serves on the Board of Higher Things.

What is Church?

march 26-27, 2021
St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Minot, ND

Is church just a building? Is it where people come to pray? Does a church have to have stained glass windows and a steeple?  Is church better if there are more people and loud singing? What is the purpose of the church and why should we even go? Do we go to church to give God our best, or do we go to receive God's best in Christ via the Word and Sacraments?
At this Higher Things Retreat, Pastor Jon Walla and Pastor Matt Richard will be digging in and answering these tough questions and more! Finally, Pastor Josh Reimche will take attendees behind the scenes of the Divine Service, explaining the significance of what is happening. Everything from the albs that a pastor wears to what is happening at the altar during communion and how these everyday things deliver the Lord’s gifts to us.

Higher Things® Retreats

What is an hT retreat?

Missing HT Conferences throughout the year? Attend one of our many regional retreats! Hosted at a church or a camp, these one or two day events will fill you with all of the great things you get during a summer conference, but in a more intimate way. Picture the sanctuary of your local church filled with teenagers, eager for the organ to begin the opening lines of the liturgy or their favorite hymns, listening intently as they learn how their Lutheran faith applies to their lives and relationships, and laughing as they horse around playing games and getting to know other youth from the area. When you attend a Higher Things Retreat, you challenge youth to Dare to be Lutheran, inspiring them to deeper faith and love for their neighbors.

Find a Retreat near you to be refilled with the same reverent worship, robust teaching, and playful fun that Higher Things delivers at summer conferences, but in a smaller way. See you there!
