Digging Deeper: Military Service and the Two Kingdoms
by Katie Hill on October 2nd, 2020
The Kingdom of the Left flows from the Kingdom of the Right. Here God gives humanity the right to rule. But it comes with responsibilities. The Left can never subordinate the Right. The Left is responsible to allow the Gospel to spread unfettered. The Left is given authority to punish crimes, wage war, and protect its citizens, which is where military service as a vocation comes into play.
Flex: Really Receiving
by Katie Hill on September 17th, 2020
Receiving means trusting that what you’re receiving is ultimately for your good and is meant to bring you to Christ. It means knowing that the Lord takes care of you through the men He’s given to serve you and sacrifice for you. There’s no way we can do any of that on our own, no matter how much we try.
Digging Deeper: But It's Not Fair!
by Katie Hill on August 20th, 2020
Vocations aren't about our wants or our rights. They're the ways we're given to serve the people around us. They're not about what we want; they're about what our neighbors need. Sometimes we don't even get to use those wonderful abilities we pride ourselves on; we have to serve people we don't even like. Sometimes we are even served by people who aren't as skilled at doing the tasks of their vocations as we would be.

Musica Sacra: The Church Musician in You
by Katie Hill on August 5th, 2020
The Gospel comes to us extra nos, meaning "from outside of us," just as music enters our ears to calm our sadness and turn it into joy. Luther said that next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise. It comes to us as a gift, just like the Gospel. Through faith, music is our prayer for peace, our bold confession, and our desperate plea for mercy that cries out, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner."

Foundations: Can, Cannot, and Vocation
by Katie Hill on June 30th, 2020
Because the biggest truth is this: You are forgiven in Christ Jesus, regardless of any chaos you see around you or within you. All that sin and disorder doesn't surprise Jesus. He loves you, forgives you, defends you, and He gives you life--now and for eternity.

Dean's List: Jesus Ain't Done Yet
by Katie Hill on June 4th, 2020
Jesus ain’t done yet. He’s not. Sometimes we think He is, though. We think: Jesus died, Jesus rose, and Jesus ascended. Done deal. Work completed. He does say, “It is finished” on the Cross, after all.
Under the Cross: The Surreal Life
by Sandra Madden on May 28th, 2020
When the only good thing we can find in our days and lives is to be able to say, “I am baptized,” rejoice! You have already been given everything. Things aren’t just going to get better one day when we’re in heaven—all of heaven was given to us in Baptism.
