Advent 4 Supplement to the Reflections
By Aaron Fenker
One final Advent video, and then next week is Christmas!
It's already here! Can't believe the holidays are here! Your tree is already up, and maybe you've got presents under that tree. Lots of...tags on those presents under the tree...
Tags and trees. That's what we're rejoicing in this coming week with Pastor Drew’s Reflection. Tags and trees.
Tags let you know, well, who's the present for. Who's it for? Who's getting it? Who's it from? John serves as one of those for Jesus. Who is He? Where's He from? And who's He for? Jesus does the same thing. That's the tags that were talked about in the Reflection. Trees too. You've got your presents under the tree. But we can rejoice this, well, these last few days of Advent as we're getting so close to Christmas.
Our joy isn't just the Christmas tree. Though there is great joy there, reminding us of God's love for us. That's really what it’s all about. Always living. Jesus, always living.
And there it is! There's pointing us to the true tree that we're rejoicing about. We're rejoicing about Calvary's tree. Yes, even on Christmas! Because it wasn't just a manger that held our Lord (a wooden box for food). It was the wooden tree of the cross that also held Him.
That's our comfort, and our joy this Christmas season. That our Lord isn't just born. That's not very comforting. He's born, well, FOR YOU! And He's born for you, to die FOR YOU.
Now we're at the combination of tags and trees, now, aren't we? For Jesus is from the Father and He comes FOR YOU, to save you. He dies for you so the present of Calvary is yours! And that's the tag that is marked on all the Lord's gifts for you. They are labeled, "FOR YOU."
YOU! It's just yours. Just for you. "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." "I forgive you all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." "Jesus died and rose FOR YOU." "This is My Body; This is My Blood, given and shed FOR YOU for the forgiveness of your sins."
And so there, the Lord's well, BAGS (His Baptism, His Absolution, His Gospel, and His Supper) are all tagged "FOR YOU." What do they deliver? They deliver the best present of all: Jesus's redemption that He purchased and won for you on the tree of Calvary, and He delivers it to you so that you would live forever with Him.
Rend the heavens and come down, Rorate Coeli. He doesn’t rend the heavens yet, though He will. One day He will. One day He will come again in glory. He will come to save you. That's what He's already done, as He comes to you in His gifts.
I really hope you enjoy the Reflection for the Last Sunday in Advent from Pastor Drew.
