Monday of the Fifth Week of Easter

Today's Reading: Isaiah 12:1-6

Daily Lectionary: Leviticus 21:1-24; Luke 12:1-12

I will praise You, Yahweh. Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away and You comfort me. (Isaiah 12:1)

He is risen indeed! Alleluia! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. We brought nothing to our salvation, nothing except sins. We're enemies of God. Adam and Eve hid, and we're their children. If we'd been there, we would've done the same exact thing.

"Where are you?" "I was afraid, so I hid." "Did you eat from tree?" "If you hadn't given me this woman, I wouldn't have!" "What have you done?" "The devil made me do it!"

He should be angry. He has every right to be. We dodge. We make excuses. We blame everyone but ourselves for our sins. We'll even blame God! Just like our first parents.

But in His Son, Yahweh is merciful. Yahweh comes in the flesh and saves us. Yahweh Himself bears His own anger to turn it away from you. Jesus is not passed over, so that you would be passed over forever.

Now, there's no anger for you, no wrath, no punishment. Jesus took care of all that. In His own body He bore the sins, He bore the curse, He bore the wrath. There's only comfort for you in Jesus. He comforts you and says, "You are mine" at the font. He comforts you and says, "I forgive you all your sins." He comforts you, "Take, eat; take, drink: My Body and Blood given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins."

Now, we thank and praise Him. We raise the song of salvation. We are saved out of Yahweh's loving, merciful kindness. His anger has been turned from you. In the cross and empty tomb, there's no more of that for you. Only Jesus given to you. He is risen indeed! Alleluia! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.

Here our true Paschal Lamb we see, Whom God so freely gave us; He died on the accursèd tree-- So strong His love-- to save us. See, His blood now marks our door; Faith points to it; death passes o'er, And Satan cannot harm us. Alleluia! (Christ Jesus Lay in Death's Strong Bands, LSB 458:5)
