What should we bring?
Appropriate clothing (please dress modestly; also, some people like to dress up for the Divine Services), light jacket or sweater, comfortable shoes for walking, catechism, Bible, notebook, pen, camera, snacks, umbrella (both locations are known to have sudden downpours in the summer), spending money.

How many meals will we need to pay for on our own?
All meals during the conference are included in your registration fee. If you come a day early or stay a date late, two meals (supper/breakfast) on campus are included in that fee as well.
[ top ]

When will we see the final schedule?
Tentative schedules for both conferences are in the works. The schedule will not be finalized until just before the conference. And even then, minor changes have been known to happen on the fly during the conference!
[ top ]

How much free time will there be and when is it scheduled?
There is some scheduled entertainment and/or free time each day of the conference. However, if your group wants to do sight-seeing in Minneapolis or Asheville, you will likely need to plan for an extra day in town.
[ top ]

What will be doing for entertainment at the conferences?
We're working on some really fun stuff FOR YOU that we'll be able to tell you about it very soon!
[ top ]

Who are the main speakers?
In Minneapolis, the Rev. William Cwirla and the Rev. Todd Wilken. In Asheville, the Rev. William Cwirla (we really like him), and the Rev. Brent Kuhlman

Check out their conference bios here.

When can we get a list of the sectional topics and speakers?
To keep registration costs as low as possible for the youth, volunteer sectional speakers are chosen from pastors and adults already registered for the conference. That means we can't even begin picking speakers or assigning topics until after Registration closes. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of advance notice to pore over the lists for hours and coordinate which ones to attend with your friends.
[ top ]

Do we need to sign up in advance for sectionals?
No, seating is first come, first served.
[ top ]

Are we expected to attend a certain number of sectionals?
Yes. You may attend at least one during each sectional period. Sectional topics and speakers are chosen with a teenage audience in mind, and a wide variety of topics are covered. You should be able to find a sectional that interests you every day. A large number of conference participants even find creative ways to attend as many sectionals as possible in a day.

How do I get from the airport to the conference site?
Groups are responsible for their own transportation to the conferences. If traveling by airplane, groups will need to make arrangements for ground transportation during the conference week. Check out the Local Information page of our website for more information about planning your group's transportation.
[ top ]

How do I get to area attractions from the conference site?
Transportation for conference activities will be provided by Higher Things. Groups will be responsible for arranging transportation for any other sight-seeing or off-site activities.
[ top ]

How is parking being handled at the conferences?
Minneapolis - the University of Minnesota is located in downtown Minneapolis. Therefore, parking is at a premium. Offstreet parking will be available to conference registrants, but will need to be reserved in advance.  Campus parking passes will cost $8 per car per day for in-and-out lot privileges (for 15-passenger vans, the cost is $11/van/day).

Ashevile - ample parking is available at Ridgecrest Conference Center.

What is provided in the rooms?
Lodging at FOR YOU is dormitory style. Linens (sheets, blanket, pillow, towel and washcloth) are provided. Rooms are generally NOT equipped with items such as soap, shampoo, cups, blowdryers, refrigerators, phones, televisions, microwaves, alarm clocks, or hot tubs.
[ top ]

How many people are assigned per room?
There are a variety of room styles that will be utilized. Most rooms will lodge at least two people. However, at the Asheville site, there are rooms which can accommodate up to 7 participants. The majority of rooms at the Asheville site will house 4-6 persons. The most common room type at the University of MN is a 2-person room or 4-person suite.
[ top ]

Can I choose my roommate(s)?
After Registration closes, Housing Registration Forms will made available to the group leaders who will pair up participants and send in the form to the Housing Coordinator. So it's up to you to make sure your group leader knows which of your friends you want to stay with. We will do our best to honor each request but we ask for patience and understanding.
[ top ]

Are guys and girls on the same floor?
Wherever possible, males and females will be housed on different floors.
[ top ]

Will guys and girls from the same group be housed near each other?
Wherever possible, we will do our best to house group members near one another.
[ top ]

Are the bathrooms private or communal?
Again, housing is in a variety of arrangements. The most common situation in Minneapolis is the 4-person suite, which includes a bathroom shared by two double rooms, but there are also some rooms that utilize communal bathrooms (single sex, private shower stalls). The most common arrangement in Asheville is a private bathroom shared by the occupants of a room.
[ top ]

Can husbands and wives be housed together?
There is a possibility that spouses can be housed together, but we cannot guarantee that this will happen with every request as this type of room is very limited.
[ top ]

Can I be in the choir?
YES!  Due to overwhelming interest in continuing the conference choirs on a volunteer basis, we have decided to cancel the choral workshops.  There will be time scheduled each day for the choir to practice together.  This way, as many people as would like can add their voices to the music of our worship services.
[ top ]

I play an instrument--will there be a chance to play at the conference?
Because it is so difficult to accommodate and plan music selections for the wide variety of instruments people volunteer to play at the conference, instrumentalists will be selected by the Worship and Music staff from those registered for each site.

However, in Minneapolis, one of the entertainment options will have an open-mic time when you may be able to play your instrument - as long as you can transport it to the conference.
[ top ]

How many Christ on Campus Volunteers (CCV) will be accepted for each conference?
About 15 CCVs will be put to work at each conference.
[ top ]

How old do I have to be to be a CCV?
You have to have completed at least one year of college and still be considered a student.
[ top ]

How do I apply to volunteer?
Download the form online and submit it to the Christ on Campus Volunteer Coordinators.
[ top ]

Should I register with my church's group?
Yes. In fact, we encourage you to register initially with your group so that you are certain to get into the conference. However, if necessary, a college student may register as a group of one. If you are selected as a CCV, your registration will be processed separately from your group and you will be assigned to stay in a separate area. Those accepted as CCVs who are not registered for a conference may still register at that time.
[ top ]

Do I have to pay for registration if I am selected?
CCV registrations will be discounted 50% once they are accepted.
[ top ]

Will I have special privileges as a volunteer?
CCVs will have staff (i.e., "backstage") access to all areas of the conference and a special conference t-shirt identifying them as staff.
[ top ]

When will I know if I have been selected?
When we notify you. Applications will be reviewed and selected CCVs notified by April 15.  Please complete your Housing  Registration Form with your group.  If you are selected, you will be assigned separate housing with other CCVs.
[ top ]

Do I have to arrive early or leave late for the conference?
Yes, plan to arrive a day early for orientation and set-up and a day later to help pack up after the conference. This is not an absolute requirement - after all some of you will be traveling with your group. But you're more likely to be chosen as a CCV if we can enslave you for two extra days.
[ top ]

What would I be doing as a volunteer?
Here's a list of some things CCVs may do at the conferences. This list is NOT exhaustive. Registration: Directing groups to the registration area, helping distribute materials, direct people to dorms and parking areas, etc. Speaker Care: Some of you may be assigned to a sectional speaker to hand out materials in the sectional, make sure they have any needed food and/or beverages, run AV, etc.
Worship: Help set-up and break-down the chapel.
Merchandise: Help set-up and break-down.
Photography: 1-2 CCVs per conference will be asked to take digital pictures of events (you will need to provide your own equipment)
General: Help chaperone, give directions, answer questions, run errands, put up signs, etc.
